Urgent Situations

When a Garage Door Problem Can't Wait

Some garage door problems are inconvenient. Others leave your garage unsecured or make the door unsafe to use. These are the situations we treat as urgent.

Door Stuck Open

The door won't come down, so the garage — and often the house — is open to the street. Call right away and tell us the door is stuck open.

Door Stuck Closed

The door won't lift, your vehicle is stuck inside, or you can't get in. A broken spring is a common cause, and it isn't a safe DIY fix.

Broken Spring

A loud bang from the garage followed by a door that's heavy or won't lift usually means a broken spring. Don't try to lift or force the door.

Door Off Track

Rollers have jumped the track, or the door is hanging crooked. Forcing it can bend the track, damage panels, and make the repair bigger.

Broken or Loose Cables

A snapped or slipped cable can leave one side of the door hanging. Cables are under tension — leave them alone and call us.

Won't Close or Leaves the Property Unsecured

The door reverses, stops partway, or won't latch. If you can't secure the garage, say so when you call so we can treat it as urgent.

Opener Failure

Motor hums but nothing moves, remote and wall button are dead, or the opener quit mid-cycle. Sometimes it's a quick fix; sometimes it's the door, not the opener.

Damaged Door or Panels

The door was hit, a panel is cracked or buckled, or the door no longer seals or moves evenly. We'll make it safe and tell you whether repair or replacement makes sense.

Safety First

What to Do Right Now If Your Garage Door Is Stuck or Damaged

Garage door springs and cables hold a lot of tension. The safest move is to stop, keep clear, and call a professional. Here is what we'd tell you to avoid:

Don't force the door up or down, or try to push it back onto the track.
Don't touch the springs, cables, or the brackets they attach to — they hold enough tension to cause serious injury.
Don't run the opener on a door that's crooked, jammed, or off track.
Don't stand or park anything under a door that's partly open or hanging unevenly.
Don't let children or pets near the door until it's been looked at.

If your door is stuck open and you can't secure the garage, say so when you call. For springs in particular, see our broken garage door spring repair page.

What to Expect

How Emergency Garage Door Service Works

01

Stop using the door

Don't force it. If it's moving unevenly, making a loud noise, or stuck partway, leave it where it is and keep people and vehicles clear.

02

Call Heritage and describe what happened

Tell us what you saw and heard, and say if the door is stuck open or can't be secured. That helps us prioritize the call.

03

We diagnose and make it safe

We find the actual cause — spring, cable, track, opener, or damaged panels — and explain your options before work starts.

04

Repair and test

We complete the repair and test the door's operation and balance before we leave, so the garage is secure again.

Not sure whether it's an emergency? Our general garage door repair page covers scheduled repairs. If the problem turns out to be the opener, see our garage door opener repair and replacement service. And if the door is beyond a practical repair, we also handle new garage door installation.

Questions

Emergency Garage Door Repair FAQ

Do you offer 24/7 emergency garage door repair?
Yes. Heritage Garage Doors offers 24/7 emergency service. Call 857-217-4519 and describe what's happening — if the door is stuck open or the garage can't be secured, tell us right away.
My garage door is stuck open. What should I do?
Don't try to force it down. A door that's stuck open is often a broken spring, a snapped cable, or an off-track door, and forcing it can cause injury or more damage. Call us, tell us the garage can't be secured, and keep people and vehicles clear of the door until we arrive.
My garage door is stuck closed and my car is inside. Can I open it manually?
If the door won't lift, a broken spring is a common cause, and lifting a door with a broken spring is risky because it can be far heavier than it should be. Don't force it. Call us and we'll talk through what you're seeing before you try anything.
Is it safe to use my garage door after it comes off the track?
No. A door that has come off its track can fall or bind, and running the opener on it can bend the track or damage the door further. Leave it alone and call for repair.
What causes a garage door to suddenly stop working?
The most common causes are a broken spring, a snapped or slipped cable, a door that has jumped the track, or an opener failure. Sensors and damaged panels can also stop a door from closing. We diagnose the actual cause before recommending any work.
Can an emergency garage door repair be done the same day?
Many urgent repairs, such as spring replacement, cables, off-track doors, and opener issues, can often be completed the same day, depending on the problem and parts availability. Call and describe the situation and we'll tell you what's realistic.
Do you provide emergency garage door service in New Hampshire and Rhode Island?
Yes. Our primary market is Massachusetts, and we also serve New Hampshire and Rhode Island. Call and give us your town so we can confirm service.
